Trailer: The 90s Jurassic Park Cartoon You’ve Never Seen

Never ordered, this animated series derived from the Steven Spielberg film has just resurfaced thanks to presentation images unearthed more than thirty years later. 90s kids would have loved it!

In the 1990s, almost every big Hollywood hit had a cartoon adaptation. From Beetlejuice to Ghostbusters and Men in Black, studios were multiplying television series to prolong the life of their franchises with young audiences.

Surprisingly, Jurassic Park, the third biggest box office success of the entire decade, was never entitled to its cartoon. Well, not quite: Universal had launched the development of an animated series, before abandoning it midway.

More than thirty years later, images of this aborted project have just resurfaced. On October 31, 2026, two fans of the saga shared almost identical extracts on social networks, which seem to correspond to a trailer for this series that was never broadcast. According to them, this cassette had been circulating for several years among a small circle of Jurassic Park enthusiasts.

We notably discover Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler returning to Isla Nublar, accompanied by two children – a little blonde girl and a dark-haired boy with glasses. Maybe Tim and Lex Murphy, even if Tim didn’t wear glasses in the movie…

Their stay obviously turns into a nightmare when they find themselves confronted with the island’s dinosaurs. The boy even ends up separated from the adults, suggesting an adventure where the children would have to learn to survive on their own.

Visually, the project would have found its place perfectly among the great cartoons of the time. But its tone seems decidedly darker than that of many productions aimed at children. This was precisely the intention, as William Stout, an artist who worked on the project, explained in 2014: “It was not supposed to be a cartoon for toddlers, although children of all ages, including myself, could have enjoyed it”

Why was the series never produced? No official reason has been communicated. William Stout, however, put forward an explanation on his blog: the final decision would have fallen to Steven Spielberg, who would not have even taken the time to look at the images produced. “At the time, it was rumored that he was fed up with the merchandising around Jurassic Park and all the commercial exploitation of the film. So the project never came to fruition.”

Universal, however, has not abandoned the idea of an animated series in this universe. In 2020, the studio finally released Jurassic World: La Colo du Cretaceous, a 3D animated production centered on a group of teenagers trying to survive alone on Isla Nublar.
