Jeremy Allen White becomes Bruce Springsteen: first photo!

US box office: Springsteen crushed by the power of anime

The biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere was a flop, while Chainsaw Man, adapted from the manga, was an unexpected hit.

As in France, Chainsaw Man was a surprising hit at the US box office, further proving the growing power of manga culture around the world.

The Movie: Reze’s Arc topped the chart with $17.2 million in 3,003 North American theaters. A new triumph for Crunchyroll, after the success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Infinite Fortress last September, which set a genre record with 70 million for its launch. The film, available in dubbed and subtitled versions, also benefited from increasingly lucrative Imax screenings.

Meanwhile, the music of Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere struggled to be heard. As a symbol, the iconic American icon failed to attract crowds with this musical biopic from Disney and 20th Century, carried by Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) in the shoes of the Boss. The film only grossed $9.1 million for its opening (3,460 theaters), and only opened in fourth place at the US box office. Internationally, it adds 7 million, for a very disappointing global total of 16.1 million. Not great for a film whose budget climbs to 55 million…

Directed by Scott Cooper, the feature film takes a less traditional approach than recent Bob Dylan biopics (A Perfect Stranger) or Bob Marley (one Love). He is interested in the genesis of Nebraskathe acoustic and melancholic album from 1982, far from unifying anthems like Born in the USA. Initially, the film was supposed to have a start similar to that of A Perfect Stranger (11.6 million), but the latter, released during the holidays, then reached 75 million in the United States and 140 million worldwide.

Behind Chainsaw Manthe horrific sequel Black Phone 2 falls to second place with 13 million (–52% compared to its launch). The film has now grossed 48 million in the United States and 80.4 million internationally – a real breath of fresh air for Blumhouse, which is losing momentum this year.

In third position, Regretting Youadaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel with McKenna Grace and Mason Thames, created a surprise: 12.8 million dollars on 3,393 screens, plus 10 million abroad, for a worldwide total of 22.8 million for this drama produced by Constantin Films.

The top 5 closes with Tron: Areswhich continues to slide: 4.7 million for its third weekend, and only 63 million in the United States (123 million worldwide) despite a colossal budget of 180 million.

Finally, in a limited circuit, Bugonia — new collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone — attracted: $690,000 on 17 screens, an impressive average of $40,588 per theater. Stone plays a CEO kidnapped by two conspirators convinced that she is an extraterrestrial coming to destroy the Earth. The film will be released more widely in the USA next weekend under the Focus Features banner and in France on November 26.
