Vince Gilligan after Breaking Bad: “I would like Pluribus to be an antidote to The Last of Us”
In the issue of Première currently on newsstands, the showrunner tells us exclusively about his new series, which will begin in November on Apple TV.
Complicated to summarize Pluribus. The official synopsis itself plays the card of vagueness: “The most unhappy person in the world is the only one capable of saving humanity… from happiness. » Somewhere between The Fourth Dimension and X-Files, the new series from Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) tells the story of how a virus transforms humanity into a sort of new species that shares a collective consciousness. Nice “invaders” as usual, ready to bend over backwards for Carol (Rhea Seehorn), the last human from the world before, who herself is going through a sort of depression. Can she survive this absolute bliss?
A mix of sci-fi, comedy, thriller and drama, Pluribus is a tour de force on which Vince Gilligan speaks in the columns of Première. He explains in particular that he wants to force “the viewer to question the implications of a planet whose beings love each other and live in peace. There is no longer anyone in prison, no more oppression, no more torture… I want people to discuss this, this possibility of appeasement. »
And to add:
“I really like The Walking Dead, The Last of Us or Invasion of the Defilers, but these are fictions where we definitely don’t want to integrate the other camp! Here there is a very clear temptation. (…) Basically, I would like Plur1bus to be an antidote to post-apocalyptic series. »
Discover in the magazine currently on newsstands (with Kaamelott 2 on the cover) the full interview with Vince Gilligan, which focuses on his doubts after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, his relationship with success, the complicated dramaturgy of happy people, what series anti-heroes have done in the United States and the absolute talent of Rhea Seehorn. The first episode of Pluribus will be broadcast on November 7 on Apple TV.
