Vince Gilligan will take his time for season 2 of Pluribus

“We work at the speed at which we work, a bit like glaciers melt at their own pace…”

After an explosive finale and a lot of buzz since the holidays, the creator of Pluribus refuses to give in to haste.

The first season of the Apple TV series ended on Christmas Eve, leaving viewers in shock and already eager to see what happens next. Problem: Vince Gilligan announces it bluntly: we will have to be patient before rediscovering the science fiction series. Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter alongside executive producer Gordon Smith, Vince Gilligan tempers the ambient enthusiasm:

“It’s going to frustrate some people, to be honest. We work at the speed at which we work, a bit like glaciers melt at their own pace,” he confides with his wry humor. “Selfishly, I would like to go faster. I don’t know how many years I have left to make series, and I still want to tell things. But I’m going slower than before. So yes, there will be time between seasons.”

A speech which extends that of Gordon Smith, ensuring that season 2 will return “as quickly as humanly possible”. Translation: there is no question of skipping steps, despite the pressure from fans and the critical success of the show.

In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, the duo also insisted on the need to remain faithful to their method. “We’re grateful that people like the show,” says Gilligan, “but our best way forward is to stay in our creative bunker and not pay too much attention to the reactions, whether positive or negative.” Before adding: “We are the first fans of Pluribus. We try to satisfy ourselves first.”

In short, there will be no Pluribus in 2026. More certainly, season 2 should be released in 2027.

A philosophy which has not calmed the impatience of fans, more and more of whom are denouncing on social networks the lengthening of delays between seasons, a symptom which has become common in the era of streaming. And the discontent goes far beyond the circle of science fiction fans: Stephen King himself shared an ironic message about X, telling Gilligan: “I understand, Vince… but I’m not getting any younger either.”
