Will Ferrell returns to wacky sports comedy with golf
The American actor will be The Hawk, former star of the greens, in this new farce for Netflix.
Will Ferrell takes up golf for Netflix!
Accustomed to sports comedies, the actor has already distinguished himself several times in the skin of improbable athletes in the cinema. Will Ferrell notably played a megalomaniac NASCAR driver in Ricky Bobby: king of the circuit (2006), a figure skater as macho as he is ridiculous in The Kings of Skating (2007), or Jackie Moon, owner-player of a basketball team in Semi-Pro (2008).
With The Hawkwhere he plays a former golf number one ready to attempt an improbable comeback, Ferrell therefore adds a new sport to this gallery of characters as absurd as they are memorable. The first teaser released by Netflix shows Ferrell as golfer Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, wearing a flashy pink polo shirt and a white visor: “This summer, a legend returns. An icon. A champion. An American hero... It’s me ! It’s me we’re talking about!” he says in the video.
According to the official description, the series follows Lonnie Hawkins, world number 1 golfer in 2004, who tries to relaunch his career as he reaches the “back nine” of his professional life. His body tells him to retire, but his heart refuses to give up. His ex-wife and his son Lance, a new rising golf star, are convinced that his career is over. But with one last major tournament to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie is convinced he is just one shot away from the greatest comeback in the history of the sport.
Alongside Will Ferrell, the cast will also bring together Molly Shannon and David Hornsby.
Expected release this summer on Netflix.
