The director of 300 has helmed a psychological action thriller that promises to be particularly dark.
Three years after his diptych Rebel Moon released on Netflix between 2023 and 2024, the director of Man of Steel leaves SF aside and returns to a more realistic, bloodier universe too.
Zack Snyder signs The Last Photographa psychological action thriller whose trailer has just been revealed, promising a violent and hallucinatory film, much bloodier than the director’s previous forays into the DC universe.
The story follows former DEA agent Ethan Black (Stuart Martin) who leads a solitary existence in South America when he learns of the deaths of his diplomat brother and sister-in-law. He then sets off in search of their missing nephew and niece, while trying to understand what really happened. In his quest for revenge, Ethan will join forces with Joe Wallace (Fra Fee), a drug-addicted war photographer who claims to have witnessed the couple’s kidnapping and brutal murder.
The trailer, nearly three minutes long, shows the two men gradually sinking into a hostile mountainous region, far from any civilization. Between stalking, violence and wild landscapes, the journey will quickly take an increasingly strange and surreal turn.
Disturbing dreams, nightmarish visions and scenes of great brutality: The Last Photograph seems to push Zack Snyder’s taste for spectacular images and graphic violence very far.
He stages an original story that he himself imagined. The screenplay is written by Kurt Johnstad, already a collaborator of the filmmaker on 300while Hans Zimmer composes the music with Omer Benyamin and Steven Doar.
The Last Photograph will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13. The film currently has no distributor or theatrical release date.
