13 days 13 nights: the criticism of our second trainee
Martin Bourboulon returns after the three musketeers: d’Artagnan and the three musketeers: Milady in 2023, with a new adaptation: 13 days, 13 nights in the hell of Kabul. A success!
In 13 days 13 nightsMartin Bourboulon moves away from historic fiction novels to tackle a military thriller inspired by a true story. However, we always find the energy of Three musketeers where the swords are replaced by firearms and horses by immense planes present throughout the film.
We follow here the police commander Mohammed Bida (interpreted by Roschdy Zem), on August 15, 2021, during the Taliban takeover in Kabul. Hundreds of Afghans come to take refuge in the French Embassy only protected by Commander Bida and a handful of soldiers. A civilian evacuation operation is then implemented after negotiations with the help of EVA (Lyna Khoudri) a young Franco-Afghane humanitarian as a translator.
Beyond the spectacular side, the film wonders about the notion of heroism by questioning the paradox of its profession. He must save lives in an emergency, while waiting for the agreement of his superiors. Should he act or obey? Bida does not leave the choice. Neither at random nor his superiors, and always imposes his plans, even if it means being out of procedure and the consequences are felt throughout the film. The atmosphere becomes heavy. We follow what is being groped, most of the time helped by the games of very communicative looks as well as by the sequence plans sometimes interrupted by unexpected deaf noises that wake up the spectator both in the viewing of the film and in reality. The rhythm is very engaging and does not give way to boredom. 13 days 13 nights So is a successful bet!
