25 years after Moulin Rouge, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor sing together at the Oscars

The couple met to present the Oscar for Best Picture last night.

Moment of nostalgia and glamor to conclude the 98th Academy Awards.

Last night, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor met on stage to present the Best Film award… and ended up singing a song, in homage to their cult duo of Moulin Rougewhich celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

The two actors, who co-starred in Baz Luhrmann’s flamboyant film, proved that the chemistry was still intact. While Nicole Kidman explained that she loved all the films nominated this year, Ewan McGregor asked her if she really had them “loved”. A simple question that sparked an improvised musical exchange around songs containing the word “love”. The duo thus linked together a few references: Love Is Like Oxygen from Sweet, Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing popularized by Andy Williams, or even Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker.

“But I have to say, Nicole, even after 25 years, every time I hear the word ‘love,’ I feel like someone is going to bring down a chandelier and start the orchestra.” joked McGregor, an obvious nod to the legendary opening of Moulin Rouge. “Oh, don’t tempt me.”Kidman replied mischievously.

Before announcing the nominees for Best Film, the two stars finally concluded their number by singing the chorus of All You Need Is Love of the Beatles.

Released in 2001, Moulin Rouge had quickly become a pop phenomenon. The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and made an impact with its explosive soundtrack – notably the hit Lady Marmalade performed by Christina Aguilera, Mýa, Pink and Lil’ Kim.
