Dwight recognizes that The Office struggled after Steve Carell’s departure
Actor Rainn Wilson explains why the series declined after season 7.
Dwight Schrute And Michael Scottit’s a great story that ended in 2011, after season 7 of The Office.
Rainn Wilsonthe emblematic interpreter of Dwight, recently confided in the podcast Good guys on the difficulties encountered during the last two seasons of The Office After the start of Steve Carell. He recognizes that the loss of their star has turned the balance of the series:
“When Steve left, it was a little chaotic. We had to redefine the tone of the series, which was the leader, and how to tell our stories without the comic engine of the show, without Michael Scott, without one of the greatest actors in American history. He was at the center of everything. It was a real challenge.”
However, Rainn Wilson assures that this departure did not surprise the actors. They had seen him coming for a while because Steve Carell was Already a movie star:
“We had known for a long time that it was going to happen. At that time, he chained films like Date Night, the incredible Burt Wonderstone, Max threat … major comedies that came out in thousands of rooms through the United States. He was in the order of things he leaves The Office As soon as he would have the opportunity. “
The Office therefore tried to continue without Steve Carell. Production tried to relaunch the saga with Will Ferrell briefly, then James Spader Or Catherine Tate. But after the seasons 8 and 9, much lower than the previous ones, the sitcom ended in 2013, not without a surprise return from Michael Scott in the final.
Note that the franchise The Office will be relaunched this fall with the spin-off The Paper.
