USS Alabama 2? The continuation arrives, 30 years later

Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the original film, reveals having launched the project with a director and a screenwriter who already chat with the Navy!

Thirty years after its release, Uss alabama (Crimson Tide in VO) could well surface again.

Jerry Bruckheimerproducer of the original film, confirmed this week on “The Rich Eisen Show” that a second part was officially in development.

And not to make figuration: discussions with the American army, new scenario under high tension and, perhaps even return from Denzel Washington in submarine officer.

“We have a very good director and an excellent screenwriter who are currently in contact with the Navy to understand what is going on underwater”dropped Bruckheimer, while keeping secrets the names of the team in question. If the project is advancing well, the film promises to plunge into the nuclear tension in camera which had made the strength of the original thriller, directed by the late Tony Scott.

The real question concerns the participation of Denzel Washingtonwhose duel with Gene Hackman aboard the Uss alabama There remains one of the summits of the genre.

Bruckheimer believes it: “If we offer him a good scenario, I think he will do it.”

A relative of the actor confirmed that no agreement was signed, but that it remained “open”if the script is up to par. Unfortunately, Gene Hackmandied last February at 95 years, will not be.

With the disappearance of the actor, a new face-to-face must be imagined for this suite and even if Bruckheimer admits that he will probably never find “A level of writing like it”the ambitions are clear: Bring back intensity, moral tension and nuclear emergency in deep watersin the heart of the 2020s.
