The new Star Wars trilogy is progressing well

Upon leaving Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy confirms that Simon Kinberg (X-Men) is in the middle of writing a new saga in the Galaxy far, far away.

The new trilogy Star Wars is well and truly underway — and it is even progressing rather well. In full transition at the head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Simon Kinberg is actively working on a new saga set after The Rise of Skywalker. “He’s working right now. He wrote something that we read in August.”she explains to Deadline, before specifying that the project has since been largely rethought.

Because after the livery of this first version, Lucasfilm and Kinberg thoroughly revised their copy. “We pretty much reversed the story, then spent a huge amount of time on processing”specifies Kennedy. In-depth work which resulted in a particularly substantial document: a general framework of around 70 pages, finalized barely four weeks ago. A decisive step which confirms that the trilogy has gone beyond the purely conceptual stage and is now part of a concrete schedule, with a first script expected for March.

Already passed through the universe Star Wars with Star Wars RebelsSimon Kinberg is at the heart of the studio’s future strategy here. Kathleen Kennedy also emphasizes that Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan are fully aligned with her vision. This new trilogy, set after The Rise of Skywalkeris designed as a long-term project, whose timeline will extend “well beyond 2030”. Separated from the other films in development, it now appears to be the next big step in the saga.
