A great historical drama about the true story of journalist Jean Luchaire and the Collaboration in France, during the Second World War.

Four years after the triumph of his Lost Illusionsawarded 7 Césars (including Best Film) and 1 million admissions in France, director Xavier Giannoli returns with Rays and Shadowsthe trailer for which has just been revealed.

The filmmaker, a master in the art of mixing historical narrative and dramatic tension, will follow the story of Jean Luchaire and his daughter, the actress Corinne Luchaire, between the 1930s and the Occupation. Journalist who wrote in Our time between the wars, a convinced pacifist, Jean Luchaire campaigned for a fraternal rapprochement between France and Germany, so that the horrors of the First World War would never happen again. A conviction that would push him into collaboration during the Occupation. He will notably be the founder of the newspaper The New Timesan evening daily from the French collaborationist press, which appeared between 1940 and 1944…

“During the Second World War, the true story of Jean and Corinne Luchaire, a father and his daughter caught in the spiral of collaboration” details the official synopsis.

Jean Dujardin will play Jean Luchaire. Her daughter will be played by Nastya Golubeva. August Diehl will be Otto Abetz, close friend of Jean and ambassador of the Third Reich in Paris during the Occupation.

The trailer already highlights the dark and ambiguous atmosphere of a multi-faceted French tragedy.

Produced by Patrick Godeau, Olivier Delbosc and Sidonie Dumas, with the participation of Emilien Bignon and Christine de Jekel, the film is a co-production of Curiosa Films, Waiting for Cinéma and Gaumont.

Rays and shadows will be released in theaters on March 18 in France.
