Anna Wintour tortured Anne Hathaway on the Oscars stage
A preview of the Devil Wears Prada sequel.
This Sunday, March 15, during the Oscars ceremony, reality invited itself into fiction…
While the second part of Devil wears Prada is in full promotion, the real Miranda Priestly and the interpreter of Andrea Sachs took to the stage to present two Oscars.
We know that the character played by Meryl Streep is largely inspired by the popess of fashion, who was at the head of Vogue for almost 40 years, Anna Wintour. Adapted from the eponymous and semi-autobiographical novel by Lauren Weisberger, who was Wintour’s personal assistant for a year, the comedy recounts the ordeal and then the rise of a journalist with her very, very demanding boss.
“Anna, just out of curiosity… what do you think of my dress tonight?” asks Hathaway. “And the nominees for best costume are…“Wintour responds dryly to the laughter of the audience. In very elaborate dresses, decorated with floral motifs, one white and the other black, the two women caused a sensation.
It must be said that the film, released in 2006, is an absolutely cult comedy.
But the excitement around the pair can also be explained by the presence of the former editor-in-chief, who showed up without her dark glasses… Although it didn’t last long, Anna Wintour still showed her face during most of the sketch… An appearance rare enough to be noticed.
The duo then awarded the Oscar for best makeup and hair. Wintour winks a second time: “Thanks, Emily“, she said coldly to the actress who offered to announce the nominees. A new reference to the feature film in which Miranda continually calls Hathaway’s character by this first name, that of the other assistant, played by Blunt…
Frankensteinthe Guillermo del Toro film starring Jacob Elordi, won both awards.
Twenty years ago, the fashion icon attended the film premiere wearing Prada. Last year she confided to New Yorker having found the film “quite successful”… A euphemism reflecting the personality of the fashion boss.
But this little staging above all reveals the very orchestrated promotion of Devil wears Prada 2. Anna Wintour should indeed make an appearance in the film. In September 2025, Meryl Streep went to Milan to shoot a few scenes for the film where she encountered…her fictional alter ego.
The trailers have since followed one another to make fans’ mouths water…and it’s successful. The first trailer has exceeded 220 million views.
The Devil Wears Prada will be available on April 29 in French theaters and May 1 in the United States at the same time as…the Met Gala.
