Tom Hanks is going to make a movie with Bad Bunny

It will be a baseball film about an unexpected comeback…

Seven years later The Extraordinary Mr. Rogers (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Tom Hanks and Marielle Heller are at it again. The actor and director are preparing a new film together, a drama centered on baseball which is already panicking American studios.

Titled The Comebackerthe feature film will adapt a short story by Dave Eggers, already at the origin of A hologram for the king And The Circletwo works brought to the screen with Tom Hanks. As on their previous joint project, the 69-year-old actor will be both in front of and behind the camera as producer, alongside Heller.

The story will follow Lionel, a sports journalist in decline, whose passion for his profession and for life will be rekindled by a pitcher freshly called up from the minor leagues. This player, victim of a violent accident after being shot in the head, then develops unexpected behavior, notably an almost poetic way of expressing himself, which will profoundly influence the journalist’s texts and touch readers across the country. If the original story takes place around the San Francisco Giants, the adaptation should ultimately focus on the New York Mets.

Another surprise, and not the least, the project is already attracting a lot of people. Bad Bunny star, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is reportedly interested in joining the cast, as is Oscar nominee Colman Domingo. For the moment, no specific role has been confirmed for them, but their involvement remains seriously considered.

The production timing still remains unclear, in particular because of Bad Bunny’s world tour which extends until the end of the summer.
