First images of Scarlett Johansson in The Exorcist

Filming on Mike Flanagan’s film began about ten days ago.

Announced last year, the next film in the saga The Exorcist is on the way. American filmmaker Mike Flanagan started filming a few days ago.

And the first images have even already followed online. We see the American star, Scarlett Johansson, in jeans and sneakers leaving a church with at her side the actor Chiwetel Ejiofor – who was already in the casting of her first film, Eleanor the Great – and actress Sasha Calle.

Filming began on March 13, in the streets of New York.

For the moment, no details on the plot or the characters have been revealed. But these few photos suggest that Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the priest. And Scarlett Johansson will obviously make a New York police detective.

Alongside Scarlett Johansson who will play the main character, we will also see Sasha Calle (The Flash), the young actor Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet), Diane Lane (nominated for an Oscar for best actress for Unfaithful) and the star of MatrixLaurence Fishburne.

This is not the first time that the director of Life of Chuck tries his hand at horror. He is at the origin of the sequel to Shiningtitled Doctor Sleep but also successful series The Haunting, The Fall of the House of Usheror even Midnight Sermons.

Today, he is tackling another classic of horror cinema: 441 million dollars in revenue worldwide, ten Oscar nominations, the original film, released in 1973, and directed by William Friedkin, has become a classic of the 7th art. The Exorcistadapted from the eponymous novel by William Peter Blatty, tells the story of a mother who calls on an exorcist to try to save her 12-year-old daughter, possessed by a demon… The phenomenon film gave rise to 5 sequels, including the most recent The Exorcist: Devotion (2023), crashed at the box office.

This new Exorcist will be released in cinemas in 2027.
