The Masters of the Universe will not be shown in cinemas: the film will be released directly in streaming in France
The big-budget fantasy film will arrive “later” on Prime Video, the platform confirms.
In a few days, He-Man will face Skeletor on the big screen in the United States. But not with us.
Expected on June 5 across the Atlantic, Masters of the Universe has no French release date. And it’s now confirmed: Amazon’s fantasy blockbuster will not be released in French theaters. The X account Skript had already released the information a few days ago:
“I can confirm to you that unfortunately there will be NO cinema release of Masters of the Universe in France.”

Information that First is able to confirm. Amazon MGM Studios will not release the film in theaters in France. Masters of the Universe will be available “later” on Prime Video, but no date has yet been confirmed or announced, the platform tells us.
We do not know the reasons behind this decision. But we know that the chronology of French media complicates the strategy of streaming platforms, which often prefer to favor broadcasting for their subscribers rather than theatrical exploitation, which would lead to a long wait before being put online.
What may be surprising is the scale of the film in question. Masters of the Universe is a huge fantasy blockbuster, with an estimated budget of more than $170 million, typically the kind of production designed for theaters. With a very sexy cast: Nicholas Galitzine inherits the very risky role of He-Man and Jared Leto will be Skeletor, surrounded by Camila Mendes (Teela), Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn), James Purefoy (King Randor) and Idris Elba in the role of Duncan.
It must be said that tracking is not famous on the other side of the Atlantic. According to initial estimates from American sites, Masters of the Universe would aim for an average start around $35 million in its first weekend. A launch complicated by the simultaneous release of Scary Movie 6 which will arrive the same day in the United States. Ironically, he will be entitled to a French cinema release on Wednesday.
