Stitch will direct Lilo & Stitch 2 himself in live-action
The creator and original voice of Stitch, Chris Sanders, steps behind the camera for the sequel to Disney’s billionaire hit.
After having lent his voice to Stitch for more than 20 years, Chris Sanders will now direct the new adventures of the blue alien himself.
Disney entrusted the co-creator of Lilo & Stitch the realization of Lilo & Stitch 2the live-action sequel to its immense success of 2025.
The choice is something to delight fans. Sanders is not only the iconic voice of Stitch: he is also the co-director of the original animated film released in 2002, which has become one of Disney Studios’ most beloved classics.
Last year, the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitchdirected by Dean Fleischer Camp, created a surprise by becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Initially intended for Disney+, the film finally benefited from a theatrical release and had the best start in the history of the Memorial Day weekend in the United States with $183 million in revenue. It then became the first Hollywood film to cross $1 billion at the global box office in 2025.
Disney formalized the development of a sequel on June 26, a nod to Stitch’s number, Experiment 626. Chris Sanders also wrote the screenplay, while producer Jonathan Eirich is back for this new chapter.
A major figure in American animation, Sanders also co-directed Dragons And The Croods before staging The Call of the Wild with Harrison Ford then the highly acclaimed The Wild Robotnominated for an Oscar.
His history with Disney dates back to 1987. Before creating Stitch, he had notably worked as a screenwriter and storyboard artist on two studio monuments: The Lion King And Mulan.
