Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias has just arrived on Netflix and many fans have already devoured the new episodes. A question now arises: will Serenity reopen its doors for a season 6?

For the moment, Netflix has not yet officially announced the renewal of its drama. But all the lights seem green.

The series is currently among the most watched programs on the platform and the actors do not hide their desire to return: “Each new season is a blessing”, confides Heather Headley, the interpreter of Helen, to TVLine. “We’re incredibly proud of these five seasons. We’ve put a nice bow around this story, so it could end there. But if the fans decide that we need to reopen this door for a season 6, we’re ready!”

It must be said that the finale of season 5 feels like a conclusion as much as a new beginning. Helen and Erik finally get married. Maddie sees her professional dreams come true. Annie goes to college. Isaac continues his relationship with Michael. Even Noreen seems to have found her happiness. In short, almost everyone gets their happy ending. Almost.

The main suspense now concerns Dana Sue and Ronnie. After a season marked by tensions, Dana Sue decides to distance herself and live alone for a while to think about the future of her marriage. A separation which could become the main driving force for a possible season 6:

“Maybe she needs to do what’s good for her, and he needs to do what’s good for him. And I don’t know if that will always keep them together,” Brooke Elliott admits. The actress also does not rule out a rapprochement between Dana Sue and Clark Bellson: “Clark brings her precisely what she always lacked with Ronnie. It will be interesting to see if this really evolves into something.”

Another plot that fans could find in season 6: the newlywed life of Helen and Erik. According to Heather Headley, the couple could explore the option of welcoming children after their marriage. “The only thing Helen has ever wanted is a family. She dreams of opening her door and finding a husband and children.” The actress would particularly like to see the series address the issue of foster care and remind people that parenthood can take many forms.

Finally, after several seasons of drama, Maddie and Cal seem to have found a balance: “For once, they’re not the ones we’re worried about anymore,” jokes JoAnna Garcia Swisher. However, she has another idea for the future: inviting her former partners from the sitcom Reba, Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman, to come take a look at Serenity: “If we get a season 6, it absolutely has to happen!”
