Britney Spears biopic to be written by New Girl creator

Liz Meriwether is responsible for adapting the singer’s memoir for the big screen.

The biopic dedicated to Britney Spears is about to be confirmed.

In the wake of the cardboard Michaelthe Universal Pictures studio entrusted the writing of the screenplay to Liz Meriwether, the creator of the cult sitcom New Girlwith Zoey Deschanel and recently behind the drama Dying for Sexhonored at the Emmy Awards and worn by Michelle Williams.

The film will adapt The Woman in Methe event memoir by Britney Spears, published in October 2023. A true phenomenon in bookstores, the work sold more than 1.1 million copies in its first week of sale. Its audio version – read by Michelle Williams – with an introduction by the singer, even became the best-selling audio book in the history of the publisher Simon & Schuster.

The project was made official in the summer of 2024, when Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the book. Directing, we will find Jon M. Chu, who is coming off the success of Wickedwhile Marc Platt will produce it. It was also Britney Spears herself who announced this “secret project” on social media, explaining that Marc Platt was behind several of his favorite films and promising his fans more announcements to come.

It should be noted that Liz Meriwether will not sign her first biopic: in 2022 she created The Dropout, recounting the life of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos.
