The new Fantômas unveils its first teaser
Guillaume Canet succeeds Jean Marais in this new adaptation of the famous masked criminal.
After the first images of Miserable by Fred Cavayé, French cinema continues to revisit its great classics. This time it is Ghosts which reveals its very first teaser.
In this new adaptation directed by Frédéric Tellier, it is Guillaume Canet who succeeds Jean Marais in the role of the legendary criminal created in 1911 by Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain. A few seconds are enough to set the tone. A voice announces: “The masks are falling. Order is wavering. The revolution is brewing.” At the same time, a mysterious figure hangs from the Eiffel Tower while Paris seems to go up in flames. The flames then form an immense “F”, the signature of the most famous criminal in French popular literature.
The official synopsis reveals a story anchored in Belle Époque France: “Paris, 1914. A series of spectacular murders shakes the city. At each crime scene, a signature drawn in chalk like a declaration of war: the letter “F”… The press goes into overdrive, public opinion wavers. Inspector Juve sets out in pursuit of a faceless, elusive enemy, whose methods defy all logic and morality: Fantômas. The fight begins between the two men before the world turns upside down in chaos…”
Alongside Guillaume Canet, we will find Romain Duris, Ana Girardot as well as Louis Peres, soon to be on the bill for Miserable by Fred Cavayé.
In the columns of French filmFrédéric Tellier promises an ambitious rereading of the character: “With this film, I want to offer a new perspective while remaining true to the timeless essence of the character.”
An essential figure in French popular culture for over a century, Fantômas has had numerous incarnations in cinema, from serials by Louis Feuillade to cult films with Jean Marais and Louis de Funès. This new version clearly intends to reconnect with the dark and mysterious origins of the character.
Fantômas, the new world will be released in cinemas on February 10, 2027 in France.
