Spider-Man: Brand New Day was pirated and seen by millions of people on X
A high-quality pirated copy of the new Spider-Man circulated for several hours on the social network, accumulating nearly six million views before being deleted.
Just a few hours after its theatrical release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day found itself at the heart of a massive hack.
A high-quality copy of the Sony and Marvel Studios film was uploaded to X (formerly Twitter), where it remained accessible for nearly nine hours.
Posted by an account named “Fredrick Bryan,” the video was viewed by nearly 5.9 million accounts, garnering more than 143,000 likes and 10,000 shares before being removed following a copyright complaint. Other accounts quickly relayed the pirated copy, but most were deleted in turn. As is often the case with the most anticipated blockbusters, studios try to limit distribution by sending withdrawal requests, without always managing to keep up with the pace of new publications.
This is not the first time that a highly anticipated film has leaked on X: already last week, The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan had suffered the same fate: a pirate copy in high definition had circulated on the platform, accumulating more than two million views in a few hours before being removed.
