Dave Bautista will be the new Kratos of the God of War series

After the forced departure of Ryan Hurst, following an injury on set, it is the former Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel who will take over the main role of the TV adaptation for Prime Video.

Dave Bautista will play Kratos in the God of War series produced by Amazon Prime Video. According to Variety, the Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy actor has officially landed the lead role to replace Ryan Hurst.

The latter, chosen to play Kratos in January 2026, was seriously injured on set last June. Victim of a torn biceps requiring an operation, he could not resume filming before 2027. Amazon and Sony therefore decided to recast the character.

With Dave Bautista, the production has an actor particularly suited to the role. A former professional wrestler turned actor, he already has the massive physique necessary to play the Greek god of war, one of the most imposing characters in the video game universe.

The God of War series will already benefit from two seasons, which will be filmed consecutively. Production began in Vancouver last February and should resume in the coming weeks with Bautista. All scenes already shot with Ryan Hurst will have to be reshot.

No release date has been announced yet.
