Finally, it is Kit Harington who will be Gilderoy Lockhart in season 2 of Harry Potter

Nicholas Hoult leaves his post. HBO has already found its new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher with the Game of Thrones star.

The cast of season 2 of the Harry Potter series is experiencing a new twist.

Kit Harington will ultimately play Gilderoy Lockhart in the HBO series. He replaces Nicholas Hoult, recruited a few days ago, but who left the production due to scheduling conflicts.

A role that the actor already knows quite well. Kit Harington recently lent his voice to Lockhart in the Harry Potter audiobooks produced by Audible, recorded last year. This time he will therefore find the character in the flesh for the second season of the series, adapted from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

A famous wizard known for his supposed heroic exploits, Lockhart is also a particularly arrogant and vain character. He becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, before his students quickly discover that he is nowhere near as competent as he claims to be.

The character was played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film.

And Kit Harington was visibly delighted to find the world of JK Rowling. Asked by Variety in December about audiobooks, the former Jon Snow explained that he had been a big Harry Potter fan since childhood and had reread the novels numerous times.

“It was a very easy yes, because I love the character. When it comes to a cameo on a show, there’s not much more fun and entertaining for an actor to play than Gilderoy Lockhart. It was a no-brainer.”

Season 2 of Harry Potter, dedicated to the events of The Chamber of Secrets, is due to begin filming this fall. The first season will launch on December 25 on HBO Max in France.
