Ten years later, the heroines will have to face a new danger, while their children gradually discover their parents’ secrets.

More than seven years after the release of season 2 of Big Little Lies (broadcast on June 9, 2019 on HBO), the sequel arrives… in bookstores.

Liane Moriarty’s new novel, entitled Big Little Truths, was published on August 25 across the Atlantic, and gives a very precise overview of what season 3 of the HBO series could tell. The author confirmed that this book will serve as the basis for this new season, even if HBO has not yet officially ordered it.

Ten years have passed since the death of Perry, Celeste’s abusive husband. Madeline, Jane, Celeste, Renata and Bonnie have moved on with their lives, but their children are now teenagers and starting to take a closer look at what really happened back then. The secret surrounding Perry’s death therefore threatens to resurface, with the risk of once again upsetting the balance of the group.

But another danger will quickly interfere in their daily lives. A new history teacher, Melody, becomes closer to the families and at first seems to be a particularly popular teacher. In reality, she hides a dark secret: she manipulates her students and uses some of them to bring them closer to her husband, Seth Montclair, a sexual predator.

The affair will come to light thanks to the teenagers themselves. Jane’s son, Ziggy, and his friends prepare a presentation that will reveal Melody’s true actions. This discovery then forces the five women to mobilize once again to protect their children.

At the same time, each is going through their own upheavals. Madeline must notably confront Ed’s illness and her family’s difficulties, while Jane must speak with Ziggy about the trauma linked to her biological father, Perry. Celeste, now alone with her two sons, tries to rebuild her love life. Renata confronts the wounds of her childhood after the death of her mother, and Bonnie continues to carry the weight of Perry’s death, even having to seek help for her alcohol problems.

And it all begins with a particularly macabre scene: someone sends a severed finger to the school principal. This mysterious affair serves as the starting point for a new story full of secrets, lies and revelations, in which the heroines’ children will in turn find themselves at the heart of the drama.

Remember that for the moment, HBO has not yet officially ordered this third season and no filming or broadcast date has been announced. The project is nevertheless well in development, with Francesca Sloane responsible for writing and Big Little Truths as the main source of inspiration.
