Harry Potter: the new Ginny Weasley and young Tom Riddle cast for season 2

Lenny Rush will lend his features to Dobby the House Elf…

Season 2 of Harry Potter features three new iconic faces from The Chamber of Secrets.

Bonnie Hill takes Gracie Cochrane’s place as Ginny Weasley, while Billy Barratt will play young Tom Riddle. Lenny Rush will lend his features to Dobby.

The most intriguing is obviously the choice of Billy Barratt. Now 18 years old, the young British actor will play a teenage Tom Riddle, the one that Harry discovers through the bewitched diary in the second volume: The Chamber of Secrets.

The role was played by Christian Coulson, then aged 23, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002. The HBO series this time seems to want to get closer to the age of the character in the books, where Tom Riddle is still a teenager when he appears in the memories linked to the Chamber of Secrets.

Billy Barratt is no stranger: in 2019, at just 13 years old, he became the youngest actor to win an International Emmy Award, for his performance in the TV movie Responsible Child. He has also since appeared in the Apple TV series Invasion and the horror film Bring Her Back.

One question remains: who will play the real Voldemort?

Because Barratt does not embody the adult Dark Lord that Harry will face directly in the last novels. HBO has not yet announced any actor for this version of the character, who should only appear from season 4, adapted from Goblet of Fire.

In the original films, Ralph Fiennes played Voldemort several times. The character had, however, been interpreted in different forms before: Richard Bremmer had lent his body and voice to Voldemort from the first film, while Ian Hart played his head on that of Quirrell.

On the side of Ginny, Bonnie Hill will therefore succeed Gracie Cochrane, who will appear in the first season but will ultimately not continue the role for the following ones due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Finally, Lenny Rush will play Dobby, the house elf who desperately tries to prevent Harry from returning to Hogwarts. In the films, Dobby was a digital creation voiced by Toby Jones.

Season 2, dedicated to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is currently in preparation.

The first season of the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is expected for Christmas 2026 on HBO.
