Cause of Hayden Panettiere’s death revealed

The causes of Hayden Panettiere’s death are now known.
According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office – cited by Variety – the actress died of a fentanyl overdose associated with several medications. “The cause of death was established as being related to the toxic effects of fentanyl, as well as several other substances: 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine.” The coroner also concluded that it was “an accidental death”.
Hayden Panettiere died on August 16 in Greenville, South Carolina, at just 36 years old.
The disappearance of the actress was confirmed by her father, Skip Panettiere, who paid tribute to her in a press release sent to ABC News. “It is with immense sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and true force of nature, who brought enormous love and joy to all who knew her, as well as to the millions who watched her on screen.”
Revealed to the general public by Heroes, in which she played Claire Bennet, Hayden Panettiere then established herself thanks to Nashville, where she played singer Juliette Barnes. She also appeared in Scream 4 and Scream VI, reviving Kirby Reed’s character nearly a decade after her first appearance.
Just a few months before her death, the actress had still given interviews to mark the release of her autobiography, This Is Me: A Reckoning, published in 2026.
