Heart of the Beast: Brad Pitt and a dog in a survival story reduced to the bone (review)

A star, a dog, the wild nature of Alaska: Brad Pitt and filmmaker David Ayer aim for purity in this adventure film with seductive biases, but ultimately too programmatic and bare.

Brad Pitt ! A dog! Fury director at the helm! Not to mention this exciting trailer… Everything in the Heart of the Beast program made us want to rush to see this film, the promise of a great adventure story in a hostile environment, with the specter of Jack London as a guide, and which would also allow us to take revenge on the last man-dog survival machine manufactured by Hollywood, the very weak The Dog Stars from Ridley Scott.

David Ayerrevealed at the beginning of the century thanks to his scripts for Training Day and Dark Blue, spent the last ten years in the DC superhero box (the Suicide Squad catamaran) and has since become Jason Statham’s handyman (The Beekeeper, A Working Man), finds in Heart of the Beast his actor from Fury (2014), for a film which would be an extension as much as the antithesis: the first locked a commando of soldiers in a Second World War tank for an epic collective and claustrophobic, while the second follows a former special forces man and his Malinois shepherd, both forever injured by combat, on a journey through nature…
