After Resident Evil, Zach Cregger directs an “even more disturbing” sci-fi film
The filmmaker of Barbarian, Évanouis and therefore the new Resident Evil talks about The Flood, his project… which will not be a horror film.
Zach Cregger doesn’t just intend to make you scream.
While his resident Evil a hit at the cinema, the director is already thinking about the sequel. And his next film could well be even stranger. Baptized The Floodthis mysterious science fiction project will be, according to Cregger himself, “probably the most disturbing film” that he ever realized.
The filmmaker told ScreenRant a little more, without revealing any information about the plot:
“It’s science fiction and it’s probably my most disturbing film. It’s not a horror movie, but it has a lot of horror in it. I love it. I think it’s really, really special. I am very enthusiastic.”
A necessarily intriguing promise when it comes from the director of Barbarous and of Faintedwho has already demonstrated his taste for unpredictable stories, capable of multiplying false leads and changes of direction. With The Floodit returns to an original story. And if the title does not yet reveal anything about its scenario, Cregger has already given a small indication of its ambitions. The director compared certain dimensions of the project to 2001, A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick, while promising an important place for horrific elements.
For now, the mystery remains almost complete. Casting is underway. Flood is currently in the pre-production phase, with further preparation planned for next February. He hopes to be able to start filming in the summer of 2027.
The project is produced in particular by Steven Spielberg, with Amblin and New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. has already set its release date for August 11, 2028.
