Nicolas Winding Refn discusses a 3rd film with Ryan Gosling
The Danish filmmaker and the Hollywood star reunited again for… a comedy?
They revealed themselves together with Driveenhanced by the music of the late Kavinsky and awarded the Best Director Prize at Cannes in 2011. Two years later, Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling did it again with Only God Forgivesan experimental and ultra-violent thriller filmed in Bangkok. Thirteen years after their second collaboration, the duo could do it again.
In full tour for Her Private Hellpresented at the Deauville Festival, the Danish filmmaker gave an interview to France 24. And he very clearly mentions the possibility of a third film with his favorite actor.
“Ryan and I talk about a third movie all the time. Because, you know, our lives are very parallel in a lot of ways. It will most likely be a comedy. I think we feel like we’re heading towards that. But strange things have happened, so you never know. There’s this thing, the ‘third’. We have the third act of our lives together.”
A comedy with Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn? On paper, the concept is intriguing. But for the moment, it is impossible to know when this famous “third act” could come to fruition. The director remains deliberately mysterious:
“It’s like Christmas. It’s better not to know what you’re going to get. This way, we will be much happier.“
In short, there is no guarantee that this third film will ever see the light of day. Until then, Ryan Gosling seems far from the world of the Scandinavian director, rather inclined to make Star Wars And Ghost Rider.
