Fede Álvarez will direct Don’t Breathe 3

Ten years after the first film, Rocky and the Blind Man will finally meet again.

Ten years after the release of Don’t Breathethe horror film that confirmed Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Álvarez is back for a third opus in the franchise officially in preparation.

In the casting, we will mainly find Jane Levy who will reprise the role of Rocky opposite Stephen Lang, back in the skin of the worrying blind veteran.

The director announced the news on September 26 during an anniversary screening of Don’t Breathe organized at Beyond Fest. Álvarez also clarified that he had written the new screenplay, which will therefore bring together the two survivors of the first film.

Released in 2016, Don’t Breathe followed Rocky, a young woman who dreams of leaving her abusive home. With two accomplices, she thought she had found the perfect target by breaking into the home of a blind veteran to steal his money. Bad calculation: the owner of the premises turned out to be much more dangerous than expected, transforming the burglary into a real nightmare. However, the film ended with Rocky fleeing to Detroit with his little sister Diddy and the stolen money. A final twist then confirmed that the Blind Man had survived. An alternative ending, ultimately cut from the cinema cut, went even further by suggesting that he could find the two sisters.

With around $157 million in worldwide revenue for a budget of $10 million, the film was a great success.

But Don’t Breathe 2released in 2021 without Jane Levy, did not meet the same commercial response, with around $54 million at the worldwide box office. Rodo Sayagues directed this sequel, co-written with Álvarez, refocusing the story on Lang’s character.

This time, the director himself returns behind the camera and brings together the two characters from the first film. Fede Álvarez and Jane Levy know each other well since they had already worked together on evil Dead (in 2013), before meeting again.
