Why will all four Beatles films be released at the same time?

In April 2028, the Beatles will be entitled to four biopics by Sam Mendes. And rather than staggering the releases, Sony Pictures chose to launch all four films simultaneously. Producer Pippa Harris explains this daring bet.

Four films, four Beatles, just one event release.

In April 2028, Sony Pictures will simultaneously release in cinemas the four feature films dedicated to the members of the Beatles, directed by Sam Mendes. An unusual strategy to say the least, the logic of which was explained by producer Pippa Harris during a meeting organized at the BFI London Film Festival.

“The idea, at the moment, is that the films will be released in 2028 and that we want people to be able to discover them in cinemas over the same period.explained the producer of Neal Street Productions, the company she runs with Sam Mendes. However, there is no question of imagining the public doing four sessions in a row on the same day.

“The idea is that in the same month you might see one a week, or see one on the weekend, then two the next, and the last one the week after that. Whichever way you go about it, I hope people see all four films.“

Each will tell the story of the group from the point of view of one of its members. Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison, Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon.

For Pippa Harris, the interest of this group release lies precisely in the complementarity of the four stories:

“These films function as individual stories, each about one of these four men, but they possess a cumulative force that, I believe, exceeds the sum of their parts“.

The producer specifies that this huge event is a good way to pay tribute to the four trendy boys:

“The Beatles are quite simply, in my opinion, the greatest band in history, and we try to do them justice as best we can. Hence these four films. I don’t think there’s any other group that you could legitimately want to make four films for.”

An ambitious bet, which intends to transform these biopics into a real collective event rather than four independent releases spread over several months. The producer was speaking on the 180th day of filming, proof of the scale of the project.

The four films of The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event will be released simultaneously on April 7, 2028 in theaters.
