Tom Cruise reveals the first image of his next film with Alejandro G. Iñárritu

The Mexican filmmaker is currently directing the Hollywood star in his first project away from Mission: Impossible in a while.

Tom Cruise has shared the very first photo from his new project, directed by Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Published on his X account, the image shows the actor standing alongside the filmmaker, during a rehearsal on the set of this still untitled film.

Above all, Cruise accompanies the photo with a very personal message:

“Here is the first photo taken last year, during a rehearsal on the set of my new film with Alejandro G. Iñárritu. 25 years ago, I discovered your first film, the essential Amores Perros (Love female dogs). This weekend, a quarter of a century later, I was deeply touched that you presented me with the honorary Oscar. I can’t wait to show you our film next year!”

The photo comes a few days after Tom Cruise received his honorary Oscar, presented by Iñárritu during the 2025 Governors Awards.

And when we know that the Mexican filmmaker is the one who allowed Leonardo DiCaprio to finally win a statuette for Best Actor (in 2016 for The Revenant), we say to ourselves that Tom Cruise must already be thinking about completing his new collection…

The project will be a black comedy, about “the most powerful man in the world, determined to prove himself the savior of humanity before the catastrophe he unleashed takes all“. An ambitious satire which marks the first film of Tom Cruise far from the sagas Mission: Impossible And Top Gun Since Barry Seal in 2017.

With him, the cast brings together Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Burn Gorman and Robert John Burke.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu directs from a screenplay co-written with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and Nicolás Giacobone.

Worldwide release scheduled for October 2, 2026, notably in Imax.
