What are we watching for Halloween? Stephen Graham serial killer, a horrific phenomenon, a resurrected classic…
The special Halloween selection from the Première editorial team.
The film in theaters: Hope by Na Hong-jin
Ten after the shock The StrangersKorean Na Hong-jin smashes the screen with Hope. In a port city, police officers and residents face a monster that nothing seems to stop. The first hour is astounding by its power and miraculously manages to reconnect with the energy of a Mad Max: Fury Road. The sequel is inevitably a little less strong but the filmmaker manages to orchestrate exhilarating chaos, between Korean references and Hollywood mythology. Virtuoso and devastating.
The series: Nocturnal
A kidnapped child reappears after three years of captivity deep in the woods, while his sister remains nowhere to be found. The ideal suspect? A serial killer locked up for a long time. A sticky thriller, marked by the sinister and disturbing atmosphere of director Tim Van Patten, and especially by the demonic composition of Stephen Graham, terrifying as a manipulative predator, far from the overwhelming father ofAdolescence. A pure, distressing and captivating thriller, despite the inconsistencies of an overly approximate scenario.
