Pan’s Labyrinth is re-released in France in a restored 4K and 3D version for its 20th anniversary

Twenty years after its release, Guillermo del Toro’s fantastic masterpiece returns to cinemas in a restored version supervised by the director.

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Pan’s Labyrinth gets a new lease of life on the big screen.

Guillermo del Toro personally oversaw the film’s 4K restoration, made from the original 35mm elements. This new version benefits from a fully restored image and a new sound mix in Dolby Atmos.

“This film is personal and represents me as much as if I had written an autobiography (…) And this film is as good today as it was 20 years ago…” comments the Mexican filmmaker in the trailer for the restored version posted online by StudioCanal.

The filmmaker also oversaw the 3D conversion, carried out by an international team of more than 600 artists at SDFX Studios. Company 3 handled color grading, while Deluxe handled subtitling and packaging for the theatrical release. The audio restoration was supervised by Scott Gershin.

Released in 2006, this dark and wonderful tale left its mark with its fantastical universe, its macabre poetry and its way of bringing the horror of war into dialogue with the monsters of the imagination. An opportunity to rediscover on the big screen one of the most significant films in Guillermo del Toro’s filmography.

Pan’s Labyrinth in 4K and 3D will be seen in cinemas on November 13 in France.

Synopsis: “Spain, 1944. End of the war. Carmen, recently remarried, moves in with her daughter Ofélia with her new husband, the very authoritarian Vidal, captain of Franco’s army.
