A year after Hamnet, Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley will already meet again in the cinema

They will share the poster for Hold On To Your Angels, directed by Benh Zeitlin.

They formed one of the most acclaimed couples in cinema in 2025: Jessie Buckley (soon to be crowned Best Actress at the Oscars) and Paul Mescal (snubbed by the Oscars) will soon meet in the cinema.

The superb drama duo Hamnetsigned Chloé Zhao, will be brought together in Hold On To Your Angelsa film written and directed by Benh Zeitlin, American director nominated for an Oscar for his first film, Beasts of the Southern Wildand winner of the Grand Prix at the Sundance festival in 2012. The young filmmaker was then much less well received in 2020 with Wendynew approach to Peter Pan.

He therefore returns 6 years later with this 3rd feature film, produced by Plan B Entertainment, and Alex Coco (Anora, Red Rocket) via his company Rapt Film.

Located at the gateway to southern Louisiana, Hold On To Your Angels will follow an outlaw destined for hell, played by Paul Mescal, and a fierce guardian of lost souls played by Jessie Buckley. The two characters will fall into a love as passionate as it is destructive, while their marshy paradise in ruins gradually leads them towards their doom.

“Hold On To Your Angels is the most impossible love story I’ve ever witnessed: an outlaw romance for the end of America, set in the crumbling lands of southern Louisiana. I’ve dreamed of telling this story since its heroine, Pam Harper, walked into an audition for Beasts of the Southern Wild seventeen years ago. It’s a love letter to a vanishing way of life and a call for empathy on a fractured planet“, explains Benh Zeitlin.

Filming is due to begin next February.
