Al Pacino arrives at Luc Besson

The 85-year-old actor will star in a new urban thriller written and produced by the French filmmaker.

He had already filmed Robert de Niro, in Malavita (in 2013). This time it’s another legend of Godfather which arrives in the universe of Luc Besson.

Al Pacino will headline a new action thriller titled Father Joeproduced by EuropaCorp and LB Production. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-October under the direction of Swiss director Barthélémy Grossmann (who directed Arthur: Curse). Luc Besson pens the screenplay and the production, reviving the urban thriller that made his reputation.

The cast will also include the star of 24Kiefer Sutherland as well as Ever Anderson (Black Widow, Peter Pan & Wendy) who is none other than the daughter of Milla Jovovich, ex-wife of Besson (they met on The Fifth Element).

The plot of Father Joe takes place in Manhattan in the 1990s. Sutherland plays a priest launched into a bloody crusade against organized crime, while Pacino plays a powerful godfather whose empire crosses paths with the cassock-clad vigilante. Anderson plays a young woman torn between danger and redemption under the protection of Father Joe.

Sutherland, also a producer of the film, confides: “I’ve been a fan of Luc Besson since Subway. He has this rare ability to mix drama and action without sacrificing either. Working on Father Joe with him and Barthélémy Grossmann is a chance. I can’t wait to get started.”

Luc Besson’s latest project is his adaptation of Draculaworn by Caleb Landry Jones and Christoph Waltz, which has so far brought in $15 million in revenue for a budget of $45 million. But the film remains unreleased in North America, where it will have a wide release on February 6.
