Anatomy of a fall triumphs at the 2024 César Awards: The complete list of winners
Justine Triet’s film received six Césars this evening, and The Animal Kingdom received five. Photos of the winners and best speeches of the evening can be found below.
“This evening is dedicated to Micheline Presle.”
It is with these words that opened the 49th Cesar ceremony, which, as promised, highlighted women. This ceremony organized at the Olympia was indeed punctuated by the new wave #Metoo, which is currently hitting French cinema (but not only). Waited to speak, Judith Godreche as expected spoke courageously about sexual violence and sexist, which are rife in the cinema industry.
“After all, I too am also a crowd, she notably said to the audience at the Césars. A crowd, in front of you. A crowd looking you in the eye tonight. It’s a funny time for us, isn’t it? A ghost from the Americas who comes to kick in the armored door. Who would’ve believed that ? For some time now, words have been loosening. The image of our idealized fathers is being damaged. The power almost seems to sway. Could it be possible that we could face the truth? Take our responsibilities? To be the actors, the actresses of a universe that questions itself? For some time now, I have been talking, I have been talking, but I cannot hear you. Or barely.”
Judith Godrèche filed a complaint against Benoît Jacquot and accuses Jacques Doillon of sexual abuse
The women were also honored for their screenplays (best adaptation for Valerie Donzelli, Audrey Diwan (Love and Forests), best original script for Anatomy of a fallco-written by Justine Triet And Arthur Harari) or their staging: Chiara Malta was honored for Linda wants chicken!co-directed by Sébastien Laudenbach, Kaouther Ben Hania leaves with a trophy for Olfa’s Daughters, And Monia Chokri received the César for best foreign film for Simple like Sylvain – to the nose and beard of Christopher Nolannominated in the same category for Oppenheimer, and winner of an honorary César. As Agnes Jaouiwelcomed on stage with emotion by Jamel Debbouze.
By obtaining the prize for best director, Justine Triet makes César history, being only the second woman awarded in this category after Tony Marshall For Venus Beauty (institute)in 2000.
César 2024: Christopher Nolan thanks France, the country where we talk about films and authors
Adele Exarchopolous opened the festivities by winning a well-deserved César for his supporting role in I will always see your facesof Jeanne Herrythen the young Ella Rumpf created a surprise by winning the female revelation for Marguerite’s theorem. Cut off in her tracks by the music forcing the winners to shorten their speeches, she was “revenge” a few moments later by Raphaël Quenardwho won his male equivalent for Dog of the breakage. A work which also received the César for best film.
The actor caused a sensation by linking “Culture” has “farming” and taking the time to deliver a committed and offbeat speech of which he has the secret. It was followed by several strong words, whether to denounce sexism or the bloody conflict currently taking place in Gaza.
