Blood, a dog and love: Superman returns in a very promising trailer

James Gunn is directing this new film about the Man of Steel, played by David Corenswet.

Seven months before its release, Superman is revealed in a trailer where practically not a word is spoken. We come across the Man of Steel there, spitting blood and visibly badly damaged. Lying on the snow (certainly not very far from his Fortress of Solitude), the superhero calls his dog, Krypto, to the rescue. The shots follow one another between the editorial staff of the Daily Planet (where Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, obviously works), the Kent farm, Superman saving a girl from a kaiju, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in his LuthorCorp tower…

We also meet Nathan Fillion (aka Guy Gardner/Green Lantern) with an incredible haircut or even Edi Gathegi – Mister Terrific – who generates a force field capable of stopping bullets.

Although he answered many of our questions during our visit to the set, James Gunn also organized a virtual press conference at the beginning of the week, at which First was able to attend. The director explained in particular that he was inspired by “ the silver age of comics in terms of aesthetics » but not necessarily for the scenario. “ The idea of examining the character of Superman by looking at who he is as an individual and what his personal obstacles are in this film. This is a major difference from not only other Superman films, but also from all other superhero films. And so, even though some of the imagery is very close to the Silver Age, the plot is not. There are both traditional and new elements, and I think that’s where we find our balance. »

James Gunn also specifies that he borrowed a lot from the comic book All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely: “IThey notably invented this representation of Lex Luthor as a mad scientist or wizard (…) He is intimidating. He’s a tough guy, but he has his reasons. He has his reasons for doing what he does. Nicholas Hoult is a fantastic actor who I loved working with. “The director also teases” the relationship between Clark and Lois, which, in my opinion, is unlike anything we’ve seen before. »
