Box office 1st day: de Gaulle is not laughing at Scary Movie 6

The huge French biopic on the General struggled to attract crowds, while the parody comedy got off to an excellent start.

The French obviously wanted to have a laugh yesterday in the theaters.

More than 70,000 spectators came to 487 cinemas this Wednesday to discover Scary Movie 6an average of 145 entries per copy. The horror comedy thus takes the lead in the new release box office for its first day.

Anna Faris and the inevitable Ghostface are back 26 years after the first opus. Since its beginnings, the parody franchise imagined by the Wayans brothers has attracted more than 8.5 million spectators in France.

Above all, Scary Movie 6 does significantly better than The Battle of Gaulle: The Iron Age.

With 55,000 admissions in 566 French cinemas, including previews, the great historical fresco is content with second place among new releases. The first part of the diptych produced by Antonin Baudry thus marks a measured start. In 2019, The Song of the Wolfby the same director, attracted more than 80,000 spectators at the end of its first day of operation.

Suffice to say that the next figures will be closely scrutinized, especially since the two films of The Battle of Gaulle would have represented an investment of around 75 million euros. The second part, The Battle of Gaulle: I write your nameis expected in theaters on July 3, 2026.

Also note the discreet but promising start of The Plague. Supported by excellent reviews and by Joel Edgerton, the film recorded 2,300 admissions for its first day of release. A modest result, but obtained in a very limited number of only 70 rooms.
