Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey explodes ticketing sites in the United States

More than a month before its release, the Homeric epic from the director of Oppenheimer is already causing real madness across the Atlantic.

Christopher Nolan has continued to prove that he is one of the rare directors capable of moving crowds with his name alone.

On Thursday, the opening of reservations for IMAX and premium large format screenings of The Odyssey has caused a real digital traffic jam in the United States.

The American cinema chain AMC, the country’s leading theater operator, even saw its ticketing application briefly interrupted due to the influx of connections. Once service was restored, some spectators had to wait up to an hour before being able to purchase their tickets. Same observation on the Fandango side, where waiting times have also soared.

It must be said that Nolan fans take his recommendations very seriously. The director shot The Odyssey with the famous IMAX cameras and has campaigned for years for his films to be seen in this format. When leavingOppenheimersome spectators had traveled hundreds of kilometers to attend a 70 mm IMAX projection. The fervor around The Odyssey is such that the first IMAX 70 mm screenings put on sale last summer sold out in record time, an almost unprecedented phenomenon for a film whose release was still so far away.

Expected on July 15 here, the film has a budget estimated at $250 million and brings together a particularly prestigious cast made up of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.

This is not the first time that demand has caused AMC’s servers to wobble: the franchise had already experienced similar problems when tickets for the concert film were put on sale Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour in 2023, then again in 2025 with The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Chris Nolan and Taylor Swift, same fight!
