Box office France: 5 million admissions in two weeks for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, an extremely rare feat

The weaver joins a club that only four films have joined since 2019: the last two Avatar, The Lion King and Avengers: Endgame.

The phenomenon Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to spark in French cinemas. After a historic first week with 3.24 million admissions, the fourth part led by Tom Holland and Zendaya adds even more than 1.8 million spectators in the second week.

A performance down 44%, but which above all allows it to cross the milestone of 5 million entries in just two weeks. A particularly symbolic threshold: since 2019, only four films have managed to bring together so many spectators so quickly in France.

We must go back to The Lion King And Avengers: Endgamein 2019, then in the last two parts of the saga Avatarto regain such power. Spider-Man: Brand New Day therefore joins an extremely closed club, made up only of global phenomena.

And the film shows no sign of running out of steam despite the mechanical decline that generally accompanies an exceptional first week. With 74 admissions per screening in the second week, it continues to display considerable firepower and largely retains the lead at the French box office.

With now more than 5 million entries, Brand New Day has already surpassed the scores achieved at the same stage by previous episodes of the franchise. In particular, it is ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Homewhich had 4,604,615 spectators in 2021, and Spider-Man 3which sold 4,591,585 tickets in 2007.

Destin Daniel Cretton’s film is therefore no longer very far from the final performances of the biggest successes of the saga. For comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home had ended its French career with just over 7.4 million admissions. With more than 5 million spectators in just fourteen days, Brand New Day is now in an excellent position to achieve this previous record.

Behind the spider-man, The Odyssey continues to hold up very well. Christopher Nolan’s film still attracts nearly a million spectators for its fourth week of release and brings its total to 5.66 million admissions.

A performance which allows the Homeric epic to beat the director’s French record. The Odyssey has now exceeded Inceptionwhich until then held Nolan’s best score in France with around 4.9 million spectators. It is also far ahead Oppenheimerwhich ended its career with 4.45 million admissions.

The first novelty in the ranking settles directly on the third step of the podium. PAW Patrol: The Movie – Mission Dino brings together 720,000 spectators for its first week. A better start than its two predecessors: PAW Patrol – The Movie had attracted around 460,000 spectators in its first week in 2021, while PAW Patrol: Power Patrol The Movie had started at around 647,000 entries in 2023. Mission Dino therefore marks the best French launch of the franchise in cinema.
