Harry Potter: Nicholas Hoult will be Gilderoy Lockhart in season 2
The cast of the second season of the HBO series continues to expand. Nicholas Hoult will be Gilderoy Lockhart, the very narcissistic Defense Against the Dark Arts professor from The Chamber of Secrets.
It’s a new role in a major franchise for Nicholas Hoult. According to Variety, the British actor will play Gilderoy Lockhart in season 2 of the Harry Potter series produced by HBO.
Already renewed for a second season, the series will this time adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second volume of JK Rowling’s saga. Lockhart occupies a central place: a famous wizard known for his supposed heroic exploits, he is also particularly vain and quickly proves to be much less competent than he claims.
In the film released in 2002, the character was played by Kenneth Branagh.
Before joining Hogwarts, Nicholas Hoult notably distinguished himself in several X-Men films, where he played the Beast. He also became Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s DC universe, after a first appearance in Superman in 2025. He will reprise the role against the Man of Steel in Man of Tomorrow, expected in 2027.
The Harry Potter series will begin on December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max, with the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Season 2 should then continue the story with The Chamber of Secrets.
