The finale of Stranger Things will be released in theaters (at least in the United States)

Netflix will offer the latest episode, which should be around 2 hours long, in several theaters across America. And in France?

How can you not ride the phenomenon to the end? How can we not best exhibit, on a giant screen, the millions of dollars injected to achieve a sublime finale?

Stranger Things is going to make a detour to the cinemas. According to journalist Matthew Belloni (Puck), the very last episode – a two-hour finale – will be screened in the United States, in the complexes of the AMC network and other American channels, on the single date of December 31, 205, i.e. the same day as its release on Netflix (on the night of January 1 in France).

A unique event for a series on the platform.

The Duffer brothers had also expressed their wish to see their final episode shown in the cinema: “People don’t realize the work put into sound and image, and they often watch it all in reduced quality. But beyond that, it’s a question of experiencing this moment together, with the fans.”

An idea that Netflix had initially ruled out, as Bela Bajaria, creative director, recalled: “A lot of people — really a lot — watched Stranger Things on Netflix. The success of the show does not suffer from a lack of community or conversation. Releasing on Netflix means giving fans what they want.”

But obviously, the situation has changed. If nothing has yet been officially signed, everything indicates that the finale of Stranger Things will be screened in American cinemas on New Year’s Eve.

And in France? Obviously, media chronology and exploitation rights seriously complicate things. But yes, Stranger Things 5 could, technically, be projected on 500 screens across France over 1 day (January 1, 2026 for example), provided that Netflix presents this as a unique event… For the moment, nothing is planned.
