Brad Pitt to star in Jeff Nichols’ dystopian sci-fi film?
The director of The Bikeriders wants to film a new Great Depression hitting the United States, after the disappearance of oil reserves.
Jeff Nichols said during the promotion of his latest film The Bikeridersabout his desire to follow up with a science fiction project. We thought it would be a remake ofAlien Nationwhich he has mentioned a few times since 2016, but it seems that he is rather pulling out an old project from his drawers: Land of Opportunity. World of Reel reports that the director of Take Shelter had written this script in the early 2010s to make an HBO series, but since the channel ultimately did not follow up, he would now like to take up his story in the form of a feature film.
Land of Opportunityit’s a dystopia set in the near future in Arkansas, in the heart of a new Great Depression, after a huge fall in the dollar linked to the disappearance of the last oil resources. With a major twist, since it would also be a parallel story of extraterrestrials! Brad Pitt would be interested in starring in it, the article said, after reading his revised script. Paramount, which has committed to producing it starting in 2021, is reportedly looking to start filming next summer.
“I want to make a big budget filmthe filmmaker revealed during the promotion of Lovingin 2017. It might ruin my career, but oh well. I want to make a film that’s in tune with the times.”
Four years later, he added, already having this science fiction film in mind:
“I would love for that to be my next film. This project is everything I have to say about the humanity of the universe. It’s going to be a big movie. With a big vision, and a big heart, too. Believe it or not, it’s going to have aliens in it. Except it’s going to be set in Arkansas and it’s going to be like the previous stuff from the guy who made Mud. But with aliens.”
This film starring Matthew McConaughey was a great success in 2013. Despite the absence of aliens in its plot…
