Can we see the film the visitor of the future without knowing the series?
François Descraques explains to us why the visitor of the future is not “the product derived from an extensive universe”.
France 2 Dares the French SF this Sunday evening, in prime time!
The visitor of the futurereleased in September 2022 in theaters, is a great film (our criticism is there) all the more successful since its creators have managed not to lock itself in a film made for fans exclusively. The web series, launched in 2008, has four seasons and 57 (short) episodes, plus a comic strip, a novel, a manga … But don’t panic, no need to put everything in twenty-four to hope to understand what is happening in the film.
François Descraques, creator of the series, director and screenwriter of the film, explains it to us in Première:
“This is not the product derived from an extensive universe!”
The visitor of the future: a Terminator … in a French comedy version (critic)
The filmmaker put “Five years to write it. To find the right axis, the right characters. There have been at least ten versions, in the form of synopsis, without dialogues. With ten different intrigues. I couldn’t find the front door”he admits.
The click came when he agreed to put in the background Raph, one of the main characters in the series. “I made a sidekick, it relieved me. And my brother too: he did not want to wear the film on his shoulders. It was long to accept in my head, but from there, I left on a new theme. The generational conflict, how we see the future when you are young, old, parent or child. that finally it seems easy to me. “
“From the end of season 4, I knew that the next step would be a long and I completed a lot of secondary intrigues by getting rid of certain characters. I have rested very simple bases: on the one hand, the team of the visitor of the future who wants to save the world and on the other the temporal brigade that wants to prevent it”, says François Descraques.
“I have never tried to see the long as the purpose of the series, on the contrary. I wanted to make it a work in itself. Autonomous. Who does not ask to have seen the series, when it uses the background. Not so simple, therefore …”
The film model is Star Trek (1979) by Robert Wise, who passed the SF series by Gene Roddenberry on the big screen: “Child, I loved the characters of the film Star Trek, without even knowing the existence of the series.”
