Catherine Deneuve to play a ghost in Japanese science fiction film
At 80, Catherine Deneuve is multiplying her eclectic projects.
According to Varietythe icon of French cinema Catherine Deneuve began filming in Japan for Spirit Worlda fantastic film directed by the Singaporean Eric Khoo (Be with me, The Flavor of Ramen).
Catherine Deneuve plays a singer who suddenly succumbs while on tour in Japan. His spirit lives. She then becomes a wandering ghost, sailing in this tiny hope of finding humanity in the afterlife.
The project was revealed by the city government of Takasaki, an ancient city on the island of Honshu between Tokyo and Kyoto, where production began work last weekend.
“I’m happy that a film starring Deneuve will be filmed in Takasaki. I would like to collaborate on the filming“said the city’s mayor, Tomioka Kenji.
The film is believed to be based on an original screenplay. It is structured as a triptych production involving companies from Singapore, Japan and France and with financial support from the Singapore authorities.

The filmmaker of the upcoming spooky project is a screenwriter-producer-director “very busy” whose career began in 1995 with Mee Pok Man and continued with the Cannes competition film My Magic or Japanese animation Tatsumi.
This collaboration promises to be surprising, even if it is not the first time that the actress has expressed her interest in Asian cinema. Recently, for example, she worked with Hirokazu Kore eda on The truth.
