It’s not Christopher Nolan’s best-known film, and yet it’s one of his best!
Twenty years after maintaining the rivalry between two illusionists, The Prestige will return to the dark rooms. Disney has announced that Christopher Nolan’s film will be released on January 29, 2027, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. A new chance to discover this thriller on the big screen, with a major feature: it will be presented for the first time in IMAX and on 70 mm film.
A prospect which delights its director, who has become over the years one of the most fervent defenders of premium projection formats.
After the success of Oppenheimerwhich largely contributed to popularizing IMAX 70 mm among the general public, and especially among The OdysseyNolan intends to give new life to one of his most fascinating feature films.
“I’m very happy to bring The Prestige back to the big screen, and particularly excited about allowing audiences to experience it on 70mm film and in IMAX for the first time.”
Released on October 20, 2006, The Prestige tells the story of the years-long rivalry between two stage magicians, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale). A professional competition which gradually turns into an obsession, each seeking to uncover the secrets of the other, even if it means crossing ever more dangerous limits. The film also stars Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis and David Bowie, in the role of inventor Nikola Tesla.
Upon its release, it grossed around $100 million at the worldwide box office and landed two Academy Award nominations.
The American release of Prestige is scheduled for January 29, 2027. The dates and terms of distribution in France remain to be specified.
