Domhnall Gleeson’s beautiful speech to honor Rachel McAdams’ star
The two stars were together in Richard Curtis’ cute romantic drama, About Time. 13 years later, the Irish actor paid a beautiful tribute to his honored comrade on Hollywood Boulevard.
Rachel McAdams now has her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
And Domhnall Gleeson was there to pay tribute to him yesterday in Los Angeles.
The two actors had shared the poster of It was time (About Timein 2013), a romantic comedy-drama in which they played a couple whose marriage was on the rocks, and which Gleeson’s character attempted to improve by tinkering with the past through time travel. Despite modest success at the box office, the film sealed a lasting friendship between the two actors. Present during the ceremony, Gleeson took the stage to deliver a moving tribute to Rachel McAdams:
“I’m pretty sure that everyone who worked with Rachel McAdams, if they were standing here today, would say the exact same thing as me: ‘Rachel, I don’t think you deserve that star!’he said straight away, in a pirouette as mischievous as it was benevolent.
“Let me tell you why: life, and even more so Hollywood, has taught me that you’re not supposed to have it all. It’s not fair to be everyone’s favorite person on set, and at the same time the best actress in the room. It’s selfish to be a devoted mother of two, to put family first, and to be a huge movie star with a string of successes, both commercial and artistic. It’s not normal to be at the both a Hollywood star and an actress of composition, to excel in comedy as well as drama, to never be boxed into one genre or expectation, and to be the sweetest person I have ever met in my life.”
The star of the new spin-off of The Office, The Paperconcluded with assumed false seriousness:
“That’s not how things are supposed to work. So yeah, really, I don’t think you deserve that star.”
Then Domhnall Gleeson spoke about their collaboration on It was time : “Thirteen years ago, on this film, Rachel acted with such realism that for three whole months, I believed I could travel in time. You made me believe that we were happily married in a small town in England, and that Bill Nighy was my father. That was irresponsible of you. That’s your talent, I guess. But let me tell you, the return to reality was brutal…”
Also at the ceremony were Sam Raimi, director, and Dylan O’Brien, McAdams’ partner in his next film.
Rachel McAdams will indeed be showing next month in Send Helpa horror thriller by Raimi, in which she finds herself stuck on a desert island alongside her boss, who is as odious as he is dangerous.
