Dune Awakening: The video game rides the blockbuster sand wave (trailer)
An “ambitious Open World Survival” offering players the opportunity to explore Arrakis.
The arrival of this trailer probably does not come by chance. These first images of the video game Dune Awakening were revealed after Dune: Part Two delivered a massive jolt at the box office. It must be said that the public is looking more and more into the phenomenon, going so far as to explore the series of books created by Frank Herbert in 1965. This new project will add a dose of spice for all fans of interstellar epics.
The gaming product is powered by Soe Gschwind, gaming and esports specialist. The video game is developed by Norwegian development company Funcom which has also created a website dedicated to the project. The developers have thus delivered a trailer with a teaser which suggests the close link between the different works of the desert diegesis: “From the book to the film to the game” (“from book to film to game”), can we read in the presentation.
“Go from survival to domination on the most dangerous planet in the universe. Dune: Awakening combines the grit and creativity of sandbox survival games with the social interactivity of a large, persistent multiplayer game to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO. Your journey begins in Arrakis, with its vast deserts and gigantic sandworms. Meet characters from the films and books as you follow your story. Discover new allies and enemies and leverage your connections to uncover the mystery that lies just beneath the surface of the sands.”
Already one million entries in France for Dune 2 in one weekend
Captured by the Bene Gesserit, your avatar is doomed to mine the spice as a slave before his prison ship crashes in the desert. The only survivor on board, you wander the desert with the sole objective of surviving before becoming an essential cog in the history of Arrakis.
The video game is a survival MMO, which will pay tribute to the living conditions of the inhabitants of the planet Arrakis. To survive high temperatures, your avatar will need to stock up on resources, which he can then exchange with other players. Travel is reserved for the cool of the night; otherwise, the character's chances of survival are low. Funcom's MMO timeline takes place precisely eight years after the events of the film A second part (2024) while the Holy War (or jihad) sets the entire universe ablaze.
The BETA (test phase open to players) is only accessible on PC, but the game can be played on Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC… when its release date is set!
The video game's visuals are impressive, from giant sandworms to vast desert, mineral and plant landscapes. The video game offers survival focused on landscape development, such as collecting materials to make an arsenal. Here are some excerpts:
