Eragon becomes a series on Disney +: the project is confirmed

20 years after the film was released in theaters, the fantasy saga will take off again but in streaming on the platform.

Eragon 2, the movie, is still no. But the Eragon series is yes!

This new live-action adaptation of the successful novels has been in the works since 2022. This time, it is confirmed on Disney+.

Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing join the project as co-showrunners. Harthan will also be co-creator of the series alongside Christopher Paolini, the author of the literary saga. All three will serve as executive producers.

Another strong reinforcement: Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) is also on board as executive producer. The series is being developed by 20th Television, which has secured the rights to the entire literary cycle The Inheritance Cycle.

The official synopsis sets the tone: “When destiny chooses an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in over a century, he must form an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancestral magic and face the mad king who destroyed the Dragon Riders.”

Published in 2002, Eragon is the first volume of the cycle, followed by Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance. The entire saga has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.

The franchise had already seen a first film adaptation in 2006, with Ed Speleers in the title role, Rachel Weisz lending her voice to Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom and John Malkovich as Galbatorix. A film widely rejected by critics upon its release, despite a worldwide box office estimated at $250 million.

We don’t know anything yet about the new casting. No release date for the Eragon series yet.
